Bandelier is a great place to spend Thanksgiving. This 3-day loop will take you deep in to the backcountry where you will enjoy more moderate temps than at higher elevations. Water can be found at both Upper Alamo and along most of Capulin, so plan accordingly. This NP is a fee area where you will need a backcountry permit. You will also need to pack out ALL of your trash (including TP). For this trip, we hikedthe 9 miles in to Capulin on day one where we enjoy rehydrated pumpkin soup, turkey casserole and cranberry sauce with gingerbread cake and dream whip for desert. On day two we hike a scenic 6 mile loop back to zone 1702. From here it is an easy 5.25-mile hike out even though track d3 does not indicate this. Along the way feel free to take some side trips to Painted Cave or Yapashi, but the spirituality of the hike will captivate you the whole way!
