It’s easy to ride to both the Mississippi and Missouri rivers in St. Charles, and this short and sweet route visits both shores and has plenty of opportunities to stop for a hot drink—perfect for a winter day when it’s frigid but you still want to squeeze in a ride.
Despite the loss of St. Louis Bread Company on historic Main Street (where there were always bicycles in the storefront bike rack), cafes offering hot cups of coffee and tea abound through St. Charles: Starbucks, Crooked Tree Coffee House, Picasso’s Coffee, It’s a Grind, and of course, another Starbucks.
Starting at the parking lot of the St. Charles Soccer Complex, this route leaves the area’s industrial section for rural farmland and the banks of the Mississippi River. It retraces the route and continues to historic downtown St. Charles, on the Missouri Riverfront.
