See centuries-old endangered trees in one of the Eastern seaboard's last remaining maritime forests on this 6.2-mile out-and-back across a diverse barrier island. TO TRAILHEAD: From NYC, I-495 E to Sagtikos State Pkwy.; merge onto Robt. Moses Causeway; L onto NY 27. In Bay Shore, L onto Montauk Hwy., R onto Maple Ave. At ferry station, park and take E. Channel Ferry to Ocean Bay. From W dock, hike S across island to beach.
