This diverse 5.6-mile out-and-back, a park signature hike, passes colorful geysers and an eerie burn zone en route to a 100-foot cascade. Caution: grizzly restoration area TO TRAILHEAD: From W Yellowstone entrance, follow I-20 14 mi. to Madison Campground; R @ Madison Junction; follow signs to Old Faithful for 13 mi. R @ Midway Geyser Basin; park in Fairy Falls lot.

Turn L; approach Fairy Falls, a tall yet tame oasis cutting through the charred landscape; great spot for the family to enjoy picnicking, swimming, or rock-skipping Option: Continue .3 mi. NW to Imperial Geyser, which can be seen from the falls. Retrace trail to parking lot.
