This ride is great almost any time of year and a fun way to see Bennington and the sourounding towns. Many options to extend or shorten the route depending how your feeling.
The ride starts at the four corners by the big clock in Bennington. You will travel north and up on Chapel and East Rd where the traffic is light. At the top off Buck Hill get ready for a two mile decent with lots of farm land. There is a wonderful country store at the bottom (Intersection of Buck Hill and Rt.7A). 67 and 67A are very flat. Keep going on 67A for a flat ride back or head down River Rd where you will cross a covered bridge, there is another at the end of Murphy Road if you choose to take a short detour, or if you do not want to climb Austin Hill, which is steep. Head back to town on 67A if you want to avoid the climb. At the top of Austin Hill you head east toward the Bennington Battle Monument and Old First Church in Old Bennington. There are many beautiful old houses in this area. Continue down Monument Ave. with Southern Vermont College and Mt. Anthony on your right or continue down Rt. 9/Main St. back to the big clock. Finish by going down Dewy St. to Main Street.
