Royal Arch Loop iis one of the most scenic hikes in Grand Canyon, however, it's not for anyone without tons of Grand Canyon hiking experience. The route off the rim near Pt Huitzil is all off trail and extremely steep. It's a tough 8 miles to Royal Arch where the camp under the arch is simply the BEST. A cool stream runs under the arch and there are swimming holes to keep cool. Be sure you are experienced with rappelling - you're either doing a 200' rappel just past the Arch or going back up canyon and around to Toltec Beach where an exposed 20' rappel is required before dropping down to the Beach. From the Colorado River heading back up Royal Arch Canyon is one of the neatest places in the Canyon. First, you hit Elves Chasm - arguablly the best swimming hole in the Canyon complete with a cave that you dive/jump out of under the waterfall. If your climbing skills (and nerve) are good a climb to the 5 waterfalls and pools above Elves is a treat. Exit the Cyn via the tonto then S. Bass trail.

This is the main area used by the River Runners. There is a cave under the waterfall that allows you to dive into a 10' deep pool.
This is the second pool above the main Elves Chasm pool. Most people don't know how to get up to it. It requires and exposed climb.
