From the parking lot head southwest on the Storm Pass Trail towards Estes Cone. The path follows Lily Lake before veering south towards Longs Peak.

Go straight at 4-way junction and continue along the Storm Pass Trail. The trail immediately crosses a bridge and quickly begins to climb towards Estes Cone. During the early morning hours, sunlight filters through the trees, creating a warm glow that lights up the surrounding forest.

Turn right at 3-way onto North Longs Peak Trail. The trail continues to follow the ridgeline, before dramatically dipping back into the trees. Elk and 50-miles views are common sights along this section of trail.

Turn right at 3-way onto Boulder Brook Trail. The trail, no usable by horses, quickly narrows and follows an old stream bed. Lose rocks, deep ruts and roots all create a spider web of obstacles as you descend.

Begin a short descent to Boulder Brook and follow the river through dense aspen stands. During the fall, the aspens glow a fiery yellow, glistening in the wind. The lush vegetation, and roaring brook, means plenty of bugs and cool temperatures.
