There are several ascents to the top of Mission Peak. This is one of the most popular and versatile. Take the 3.1 mile aerobic stimulating main trail (GPS mapped) or cut out most of the switchbacks for a grueling straight shot trek to the top (follow established trail).

Points of Interest

MPS001

Location: 37.504280, -121.908180
Trailhead - Stanford Ave. Begin Trail through Gate. No fee for parking. Restroom and water at the trailhead. From Int. 680 exit S. Mission Blvd., head east towards hills. Turn right on Stanford Ave. Parking at the end of the Road.

MPS002

Location: 37.504547, -121.905823
Stay Left at Y. R to Mission Ridge. This really begins the ascent. It's all uphill from here.

MPS003

Location: 37.507889, -121.900002
Stay L on main trail. Left here is the first chance to take the more direct but thigh burning trip trail up. The shortcut route is a very narrow trail cut into the side of the hill and is mostly a direct route to the top of the peak.

MPS004

Location: 37.510456, -121.895767
Continue R on the main trial. L cuts the switchback and goes straight up.

MPS005

Location: 37.512383, -121.891891
Switchback option here. Watch for Redtail hawks and peregrin falcons catching the updrafts.

MPS006

Location: 37.513588, -121.887779
L at Y. Trail has leveled off for a bit here and the climb starts again just past this junction.

MPS007

Location: 37.516026, -121.888229
R to peak. There are two main ways up from here. Directly Right for a much steeper climb, or follow the main trial for a more gradual route(mapped).

MPS008

Location: 37.517479, -121.884499
R to peak. All the "gradual" is over. Now we climb. The terrain can be rough and weathered. Continuing on from here will connect with the Ohlone Wilderness Trail into the Sunol Wilderness.

MPS009

Location: 37.514156, -121.883675
L to Top. This area meets up with the steeper grade ascent from MPS007. Almost there.

MPS010

Location: 37.512745, -121.881454
Peak. Catch your breath and take in the spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay and the City itself on a clear day.
