Points of Interest

Mt San Antonio

Location: 34.288885, -117.646751
Mt. San Antonio or better known as Mt. Baldy is the "crown jewel" of the San Gabriel Mountains in Southern California. Although it is not the highest mountain in Southern California it is the highest in the San Gabriel Mt. Range. Mt. Baldy is visible from much of Southern California and much of Southern California can be seen from it's summit on a clear day. It is one of the most photographed objects of the Southern California landscape It's snow covered peak has appeared on post cards and tourist literature for many years. There are four popular routes to the summit. All are considered moderate hikes of 8.5 to 13 miles round trip and anywhere from 3,600 feet to 6,000 feet of elevation gain.

Mt San Gorgonio

Location: 34.100595, -116.828656
Mt. San Gorgonio, also known as "Old Greyback", is the highest mountain in Southern California. It is a very popular mountain with several trails that lead to the summit. The Fish Creek trail is probably the least used and is aprox. 9.1 miles one-way. The South Fork Trail is the most popular and is over 10 miles one-way. The shortest way to the summit, and my favorite, is the Vivian Creek Trail. It's 7.8 miles (Gary Suttle's book lists it as 8.4 miles) with almost 5,500 feet in elevation gain.

San Jacinto Peak

Location: 33.814473, -116.679182
The summit of San Jacinto Peak is the highest point in the San Jacinto Range located east of Los Angeles near the town of Palm Springs. The high country wilderness within the Mt. San Jacinto State Park offers many miles of hiking trails, granite peaks, dense forests and beautiful mountain meadows. The aerial tram near Palm Springs offers easy access to the high country or one can enter the wilderness area near the town of Idyllwild. The north face of San Jacinto rises nearly 10,000 feet from the desert floor in a horizontal distance of less than 5 miles. There are several routes/trails to the 10,834 foot summit. The Devil's Slide, Marion Mountain, Deer Springs, Fuller Ridge and Seven Pines trails all will take you to the summit. These trailheads are on the Idyllwild side of the mountain.
