80 miles today. Cool, cloudy day on verge of rain. Very rough, narrow roads-no shoulder. Needed to be very alert to traffic.

Started the day with a ferry ride across Lake Champlagne from NY to VT. Some hard climbing over Green Mtn Pass/Middlebury Gap much of which is 12% grade on rough, winding road (verified by photo). Got to Sharon as our destination only to learn that the three motels that were listed to there were either no longer operating or full. We were rescued late in the evening after a kind shopkeeper made numerous phone calls and located a very lovely B & B in the vicinity. WHEW! What a lifesaver--there wasn't even camping available.
