Check out the green lichen-covered boulder fields, quartzite rock formations and wide open vistas on this 5.7-mile loop hike around Sugarloaf Mountain. Sugarloaf's a monadnock, the last remaining stone formation as time and weather eroded the surrounding piedmont. The mountain under the protection of Stronghold Inc., which moved to preserve Sugarloaf during the early part of the 20th century. Look for white-tailed deer, cottontail, turkeys and red foxes among the oaks, tulip poplar and hemlocks.
